Electrical Safety (NFPA 70E 2024)
Wisconsin water operators can take this course to understand the rules and requirements found in the 2024 NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. Lessons explain PPE requirements, GFCI protection, controller equipment maintenance, lockout/tagout protocols, the electrical safety program, and more.
Maintaining Wastewater Equipment
This course provides details on a variety of wastewater equipment, including pumping stations, screening equipment, grinding equipment, grit removal systems, sludge and scum collection apparatus, and flow measurement devices. For each piece of equipment, we will cover major parts, start-up, operation, shutdown, maintenance, and safety.
This course is for WASTEWATER Operators.
This course introduces operators to piping systems and familiarizes them with the larger components that make piping systems function, including metallic and nonmetallic piping, tubing, and hoses.
This course dives further into piping systems by discussing the smaller components that make piping systems function, including fittings, common and special valves, strainers, filters, traps, and accessories. Preventative and repair maintenance for these components are also discussed.
This course introduces operators to pumping systems, hydraulics, basic pumping terminology, and pump curves. We will also look at a number of pump types, including end-suction centrifugal pumps, propeller pumps, turbine pumps, and rotary pumps. For each pump type, we will discuss internal parts, construction, and operation.
Wastewater Treatment Processes
This course provides an overview of wastewater treatment, including the physical separation of solids, chemical treatment processes, biological processes, and solids treatment and disposal.
This course is for WASTEWATER Operators.
With this five-hour course, water operators in Wisconsin can improve their utility management skills. The continuing education reviews managing treatment plant risks, developing risk management plans, handling workplace injuries, identifying workplace hazards and implementing effective strategies. We also included utility management theories and extra educational resources.
Introduction to Water Technology
This course introduces operators to the hydrologic cycle and its effects on the structure and functions of water and wastewater systems. From there, we discuss water collection, treatment, and distribution, as well as the physical, chemical, and biological properties of water.
Pump Installation and Maintenance
This course introduces operators to pumping systems, hydraulics, basic pumping terminology, and pump curves. We will also look at a number of pump types, including end-suction centrifugal pumps, propeller pumps, turbine pumps, and rotary pumps. For each pump type, we’ll discuss internal parts, construction, and operation. This course has no prerequisites.
Valve Maintenance and Piping System Protection
Covers maintenance and operation of gate, globe, ball, plug, check, and special-purpose valves. Details actuators and various accessories. Explains valve selection based on application. Describes methods of protecting piping systems. This course has no prerequisites.
Focused on pipeline fundamentals, this course equips Wisconsin professionals with essential knowledge of water distribution systems in the U.S. Topics include system operation, material selection, standard installation methods and core regulatory standards - all in a concise, two-hour format.
This course explains the basics of storage tanks and their facilities. Water operators in Wisconsin who take it will learn about the effects of water demand, common tank types, general facility regulations, standards for facility and tank construction and general use. General maintenance and safety procedures, like proper sanitation, are also covered.
This two-hour course educates Wisconsin water operators on key aspects of U.S. water distribution systems (WDS), including components, concerns and community relevance. Additionally, the program explores how environmental protocols are implemented to preserve water quality.
Continuing education requirements are based on the renewal cycle for certifications. Certification must be renewed every three years.
