16-Hour Package for Water Distribution/Treatment 1 and 2 Operators
Save with our 16-hour package for Distribution Operators and Treatment Grade 1 and 2 Operators. Approved courses include:
Introduction to Water Technology
This course introduces operators to the hydrologic cycle and its effects on the structure and functions of water and wastewater systems. From there, we discuss water collection, treatment, and distribution, as well as the physical, chemical, and biological properties of water.
Maintaining Wastewater Equipment
This course provides details on a variety of wastewater equipment, including pumping stations, screening equipment, grinding equipment, grit removal systems, sludge and scum collection apparatus, and flow measurement devices. For each piece of equipment, we will cover major parts, start-up, operation, shutdown, maintenance, and safety.
This course introduces operators to piping systems and familiarizes them with the larger components that make piping systems function, including metallic and nonmetallic piping, tubing, and hoses.
This course dives further into piping systems by discussing the smaller components that make piping systems function, including fittings, common and special valves, strainers, filters, traps, and accessories. Preventative and repair maintenance for these components are also discussed.
This course introduces operators to pumping systems, hydraulics, basic pumping terminology, and pump curves. We will also look at a number of pump types, including end-suction centrifugal pumps, propeller pumps, turbine pumps, and rotary pumps. For each pump type, we will discuss internal parts, construction, and operation.
This course continues looking at additional pump types, including reciprocating pumps, metering pumps, and special purpose pumps. For each pump type, we will discuss internal parts, construction, and operation. We also discuss sealing devices, including packing and mechanical seals, bearings, lubrication, and installation.
Wastewater Treatment Processes
This course provides an overview of wastewater treatment, including the physical separation of solids, chemical treatment processes, biological processes, and solids treatment and disposal.
This course gives water operators in Maryland five hours of continuing education on effective water utility management. It discusses how to apply effective techniques, prepare risk management plans, identify workplace hazards, respond to injuries, and address treatment plant risks. It also reviews utility management theories and offers additional learning resources.
Electrical Safety (NFPA 70E 2024) Part 1
Take this course for a thorough introduction to the 2024 NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace publication. Maryland water operators will learn about the electrical safety program, training requirements, troubleshooting equipment, PPE requirements, and more.
Electrical Safety (NFPA 70E 2024) Part 2
This course continues reviewing the NFPA 2024 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace publication. Maryland water operators will learn about many topics like fuse types, hazards associated with electrolytic cells, and more.
Water Distribution System Operation Overview
This course will provide an overview of water distribution system operation. You will learn the basics of the entire water distribution system as we cover topics such as pipeline operations, pumps and motors, meters, valves and hydrants, SCADA systems, and much more.
From the Appalachian foothills to the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland’s water systems serve a diverse landscape. This two-hour course offers an essential introduction to water distribution pipelines, including how they function, how they’re installed and what materials are most commonly used. It’s ideal for those working in maintenance, operations, or construction.
Water operators in Maryland who take this course will understand the basics of storage tanks and their facilities. Lessons focus on topics like common tank types, general facility regulations, standards for facility and tank construction, the effects of water demand and general use. General maintenance and safety concerns, like proper sanitation, are also explored.
Advanced Oxidation & UV Disinfection
Our Advanced Oxidation and UV Disinfection course will introduce water treatment and distribution operators to the operation, uses, and types of advanced oxidation and UV processes including ozonation and ultraviolet treatment.
In this two-hour training, Maryland water operators will gain an understanding of U.S. water distribution systems (WDS), including key components and challenges. The course highlights the connection between WDS structure and community needs, the role of environmental safety practices in WDS design and how operators can maintain water quality.
This course explains how fluids behave, especially under pressure and in motion. This lesson is divided into two major parts. The first concerns fluids at rest and describes the properties fluids have when they are standing still. The second half treats the subject of fluids in motion.
Basic Electrical Concepts for Water Operators WD
This course is intended to provide water operators with information on basic electrical concepts they will need in their career.
To renew a Maryland water operator certificate you must complete the required amount of training units for the type of certificate being renewed.
