What are the continuing education requirements for Colorado water operators?

Water operators in the state must complete between 12 and 30 hours of continuing education every three years in order to complete their Colorado Water Operator license renewal, depending on license type. At least 50% of the hours must be dedicated to the certificate category being renewed.

  • Class A water treatment, domestic wastewater treatment, and industrial wastewater treatment facility operators; Class 4 water distribution and wastewater collection system operators = 30 hours or 3.0 training units (TUs)
  • Class B water treatment, domestic wastewater treatment, and industrial wastewater treatment facility operators; Class 3 water distribution and wastewater collection system operators = 24 hours or 2.4 training units (TUs)
  • Class C water treatment, domestic wastewater treatment, and industrial wastewater treatment facility operators; Class 2 water distribution and wastewater collections system operators; small water/wastewater system operators = 18 hours or 1.8 training units (TUs)
  • Class D water treatment, domestic wastewater treatment, and industrial wastewater treatment facility operators; Class 1 water distribution and wastewater collection system operators; transient non-community water system operators = 12 hours
