This educational program trains Alabama water operators on key aspects of water distribution systems (WDS). The course includes a general survey of WDS organization and design, operation tactics and EPA standards to ensure safety and water quality.

Key learning concepts include:

  • WDS components: pipelines, meters, valves, hydrants, pumps and motors
  • Organizational patterns
  • Common types of storage
  • The role of SCADA systems in complex WDS designs
  • WDS maintenance and repair
  • Environmental and safety protocols

While no final exam is required for completion, this course includes a review question at the end of each section.
