IA Electrical Safety (NFPA 70E 2021)
This course equips electricians and other workers exposed to electrical hazards with knowledge needed to apply safety requirements from the NFPA 70E. We start by detailing the arrangement, scope, and purpose of the document, as well as define common terms. Then, we discuss securing an electrically safe work condition, lockout/tagout, energized work, grounding electrical equipment, arc flash and more. In summary, we clarify NFPA 70E safety practices used in the electrical industry. This course has no prerequisites.
IA Maintaining Wastewater Equipment
This course provides details on a variety of wastewater equipment, including pumping stations, screening equipment, grinding equipment, grit removal systems, sludge and scum collection apparatus, and flow measurement devices. For each piece of equipment, we will cover major parts, start-up, operation, shutdown, maintenance, and safety.
IA Piping Systems: Part 2
This course dives further into piping systems by discussing the smaller components that make piping systems function, including fittings, common and special valves, strainers, filters, traps, and accessories. Preventative and repair maintenance for these components are also discussed.
IA Pumps: Part 1
This course introduces operators to pumping systems, hydraulics, basic pumping terminology, and pump curves. We will also look at a number of pump types, including end-suction centrifugal pumps, propeller pumps, turbine pumps, and rotary pumps. For each pump type, we will discuss internal parts, construction, and operation.
IA Pumps: Part 2
This course continues looking at additional pump types, including reciprocating pumps, metering pumps, and special purpose pumps. For each pump type, we will discuss internal parts, construction, and operation. We also discuss sealing devices, including packing and mechanical seals, bearings, lubrication, and installation.
IA Wastewater Treatment Processes
This course provides an overview of wastewater treatment, including the physical separation of solids, chemical treatment processes, biological processes, and solids treatment and disposal.
IA Piping Systems: Part 1
This course introduces operators to piping systems and familiarizes them with the larger components that make piping systems function, including metallic and nonmetallic piping, tubing, and hoses.
IA Introduction to Water Technology
This course introduces operators to the hydrologic cycle and its effects on the structure and functions of water and wastewater systems. From there, we discuss water collection, treatment, and distribution, as well as the physical, chemical, and biological properties of water.
IA Pump Installation and Maintenance
This course introduces operators to pumping systems, hydraulics, basic pumping terminology, and pump curves. We will also look at a number of pump types, including end-suction centrifugal pumps, propeller pumps, turbine pumps, and rotary pumps. For each pump type, we’ll discuss internal parts, construction, and operation. This course has no prerequisites.
IA Valve Maintenance and Piping System Protection
Covers maintenance and operation of gate, globe, ball, plug, check, and special-purpose valves. Details actuators and various accessories. Explains valve selection based on application. Describes methods of protecting piping systems. This course has no prerequisites.
IA Water Utility Management
This course is intended to enhance the student's ability to apply enlightened and effective management techniques, prepare and implement a risk management plan; identify workplace hazards; respond to workplace injuries and illnesses, and to foster a culture of safety able to identify and mitigate hazards at water/wastewater treatment plants.
IA Water Distribution System Operation Overview
This course will provide an overview of water distribution system operation. You will learn the basics of the entire water distribution system as we cover topics such as pipeline operations, pumps and motors, meters, valves and hydrants, SCADA systems, and much more.
IA Surface Water Treatment Plant Operations
This course will provide an overview of surface water treatment plant operations. You will learn about surface water treatment regulations, and the basics of treatment processes, coagulation and flocculation, filtration, disinfection, corrosion control, and much more.
IA Source Water Issues and Pre-Treatment
Whether your water comes from a lake, stream or groundwater basin, understanding your source is the first step in providing safe drinking water. This course outlines the various source water types and the important role they play.
IA Corrosion Control
In our Corrosion Control course you will learn about the effects of corrosion on a water distribution system, the effects of contamination due to corrosion, and corrosion mitigation techniques.
IA Pumps and Motors
Pumps and Motors is a course that details the types, components of and the proper maintenance steps for water pumps and the motors that drive them.
IA Pipelines
In our Pipelines course, students will discover the many important factors of operating, installing or maintaining a water distribution pipeline system.
IA Meters Valves and Hydrants
Discover how meters, valves and hydrants play vital roles in the delivery of safe drinking water to the public.
IA Groundwater Wells
Our Groundwater Wells course is designed to introduce and cover the basic components and operation of groundwater wells along with the fundamentals of maintaining safe drinking water from this types of water source.
IA Distribution System Water Quality Issues
AYPO's Distribution System Water Quality Issues course will introduce to water operators the many issues that must be present in order to achieve and maintain a safe and high-quality water supply in a distribution system.
IA Coagulation and Flocculation
Coagulation refers to the process of using chemicals that collect contaminants in water, creating larger particles that are easier to remove. Flocculation is the process of mixing these chemicals in the water to ensure higher rate of contact between coagulants and contaminates. In this course, we'll delve into the details of this fascinating water treatment process.
What are the requirements to renew a Iowa water operator certificate?
